a project of hope…

Dealing with alcohol policy issues I came across this institution:

http://www.camy.org/

The Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth – it seems like a very good project, with good, useful and valueable sources. I became happy when I found – which I did via the webpage of IOGT International.

I just hope that there is not the alcohol industry behind it – somewhere hidden. I know it sounds paranoid. But there are several similar “projects” that are financed by the alcohol industry. They just appearto serve a good cause but actually aim on protecting and advocating the industry’s interests. And those are interest’s that oppose public health, the well-being of individuals and families.

So, I hope that Camy is on the good side.

Number of the day – from the Camy webpage:

60 811 alcohol advertisments on TV that kids were more likely to see than adults – in 2005. What does this number say about the industry?

What do I say: Sobriety is in!

Interesting site, even though it seems like the center has concluded its activites.

Think it`s on the “good” site. David Jernigan, which i see is staff member, was cooperating with IOGT-I in the nineties i remember making a report on how the alcohol industry worked in development countries. Then he worked for something called Marin Institute, but i see that he has moved on since then. The insitute still exists though, and has also an interesting site, combining research and activism – http://www.marininstitute.org/

Thank you JT! That’s good to know.
I know the Marin Institute. And I am very thankful for your contribution… I would like us (us in Active) to be better at transferring knowledge/ sources etc. among each other. I am now working on a database for articles etc on alcohol.
Maybe you wanna contribute =)) It will be great for Active =))

Could be. What are the plans? Is it articles others has written, or is it fact sheets that we are writing outselves? Has there been made some sort of structure of it – themes, topics of interest and such.
I guess we talked about something like this on the Actio meetings also. There are some links to resoucres on the actio2552.org – site. Not much, but a start. So cooperation must be possible.
